Subterranean Podcast: Householder Spirituality, Astrology, and Culture

It was my honor and delight to join Jane Miller of Ecdysis Bodywork on her Subterranean podcast. Jane was the guest on the ENERGY episode of TIGER TIME, and Jane’s show allowed us to go much further than we ever could in 20 minutes on mine.

We discussed my study and practice of astrology in depth, how it forms a supportive part of householder practice, the meaning of “householder” and the reasons my work is oriented towards householders, the significance and importance of lineage, and — in the grand finale — why none of this can be properly understood with out a healthy relationship to culture.

That last part was the most bewildering honor of all. I never intended to spend so much effort insisting on the primacy of culture in discussions of spirituality. I had to do it because I was unable to conduct those discussions in the environment in which I found myself. The discourse was utterly lacking this perspective. After a while, it felt like I was shouting into the wind; no one seemed to want to pick up the thread. The discourse never changed. I sort of gave up on having this discussion on social media. But Jane did pick up the thread. She cared and wanted to know more. In this vast conversation, she got to ask me why, and her questions were incisive and beautiful. I hope my answers lived up to them.

I am simply honored by the care and attention Jane put into this. Her familiarity with what I’m doing here is so deep, and she brought many references to my work to bear that I would never have come up with.
