Meditation has a workflow, and we practice it to make it familiar. We practice because this workflow lets us engage our mindfulness more strongly and easily, so we can leave it running while we go about our day. Then, each time we get distracted, we notice, we note it to ourselves without judgment, and we return our attention to the present moment. This is basic stuff for mindfulness practitioners, but it may not have occurred to you that it’s actually a pretty geeky workflow.
