Usually, our worldly routines still sweep us away, and that’s understandable. That’s what Shabbat is for. That’s what meditation is for. These sacred periods create time for rest from the torrential downpour of time in action. To be clear, rest is not idleness. If you’re totally inert, there’s no need for rest. Rest is recovery from action. Action in the world is where we give our life meaning. Rest gives us time to appreciate our lives of action, understand that meaning, and restore our energy, so we can go back for more. Later. After Shabbat.
